TINEKE POSTMA – VOYA
With her ninth album as a leader, VOYA, saxophonist and composer Tineke Postma opens a new chapter in her unfolding journey, inviting vocalist Theo Bleckmann into the fold.
Postma's ensemble consisting of Europe based musicians — David Dorůžka (guitar, Prague), Robert Landfermann (double bass, Cologne), and Tristan Renfrow (drums, Amsterdam), after years of touring across the world together, has forged a sound that is deeply personal, always evolving and expressing a musical language built on trust and listening.
Alongside the evocative voice of New York's Theo Bleckmann, Postma conjures a soundscape both expansive and intimate. A Grammy-nominated vocalist and ECM artist, Bleckmann is known for his genre-blurring work across jazz, new music, and experimental sound. Tineke is thrilled to begin this new collaboration with one of her most favorite vocalists on the international scene today.
The title VOYA reverberates on multiple planes. It calls upon "voyage," a passage outward and inward; pays tribute to "the voice," honoring Bleckmann's presence as instrument; and lastly, this album title expresses Oya, the Yoruba wind goddess of transformation, breath, and storm. Here, VOYA becomes a journey through wind, voice, and spirit—a space beyond sound, a vessel for listening and reflection.
This ensemble thrives by leaning into the unknown, dwelling in the present — and in this, the spirit of Tineke's mentor Wayne Shorter echoes softly, honored in her interpretation of his luminous composition, "Someplace Called "Where"
The Tineke Postma Group will tour in November, December 2025. In 2026 they will tour in January, September and December.
