ALBIN ORMEGARD – LOOK UP

Albin Ormegard is a Swedish musician based in Copenhagen. He grew up in the town of Katrineholm in Södermanland, where a lively local cultural scene sparked his early interest in music. As a teenager, his listening was shaped by rock, metal, and hip-hop, before he was introduced to jazz by the acclaimed saxophonist and local figure Nisse Sandström (1942–2021).

Committed to music from an early age, Ormegard pursued formal studies at institutions including the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. He later became the first Scandinavian musician to be selected for the prestigious Focusyear programme at the Jazzcampus in Basel. During his time there, he shared the stage with leading figures of the contemporary jazz scene such as Kendrick Scott, Linda May Han Oh, Jorge Rossy, Aaron Parks, Becca Stevens, and Gilad Hekselman.

While still a student, Ormegard established himself within the Swedish and Swiss jazz scenes and soon developed into a sought-after sideman across Europe. His work has taken him to stages in Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Croatia, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, Austria, and Germany.

In spring 2025, Ormegard recorded his debut album, Look Up, scheduled for release on 17 April 2026 on the Swiss label Clap Your Hands. He is currently active with nationally acclaimed ensembles including Bänz Oester and the New Rainmakers and the Sarah Chaksad Quartet.
